Pittsburgh Pilates offers group mat classes and limited private sessions in the STOTT PILATES® method. The studio is housed in the Wexford Dance Academy which is located less than a minute from Wexford exit off of I- 79.
ALLIE GREENE INSTRUCTOR/OWNER
Allie was first introduced to Pilates in 1988 as a part of her dance training with the Cleveland San Jose Ballet. She attributes her increased strength, flexibility, body awareness and career longevity to regular Pilates practice. She is certified through STOTT PILATES® in mat, reformer,cadillac, stability chair, barrels, postural analysis and ISP - injuries and special populations. STOTT PILATES® certification requires hundreds of hours of hands on training, study and observation of certified instructors and a rigorous practical and written exam. She is also a certified Pink Ribbon Program instructor.
Her goal as an instructor is to guide students towards increased body awareness, flexibility, vitality, strength, and overall well-being in a fun, motivating and stress-free environment. She believes in the power of the mind as a facilitator to better health and a more fulfilling lifestyle. She believes in the power of movement as a means to discover new things about ourselves whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual. She believes in the power of Pilates to help heal, realign, strengthen and renew the body.
Allie has taught Pilates at some of Pittsburgh's best fitness facilities that offer an authentic Pilates program and has worked with many different ages and fitness levels. She teaches Pilates for Dancers to the students of Wexford Dance Academy. See Pilates Q & A for dancers This Pilates class introduces students to the principles and exercises of Pilates and applies them to their dance technique. Students gain an awareness of alignment issues and muscle imbalances that can occur and are better equipped to prevent injury. She has been teaching movement to students of all ages and abilities since 1993. This experience as well as her thorough training has honed her ability to recognize faulty movement patterns and provide effective cue-ing to create proper alignment.
She is an adjunct dance faculty member at Chatham University. She is a former member of the Cleveland San Jose Ballet. She performed for a number of years with Laboratory Dance Company and also collaborates with other Pittsburgh artists.
